Date:2026-05-21

To enhance health literacy and strengthen the overall health readiness of military personnel, Taichung Armed Forces General Hospital recently organized the Fifth Combat Zone’s “2026 First-Half Military Preventive Healthcare, Tobacco Hazard, and Betel Nut Prevention Seminar.” Medical officers and cadres from various units participated in professional courses designed to reinforce health promotion concepts.

During his remarks, Major General Shih, Yu-Lung, Superintendent of the hospital, emphasized that smoking and betel nut chewing not only harm health but also increase the risks of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. He stated that health is the foundation of combat readiness, and only by maintaining strong physical and mental well-being can solid military capability be achieved.

The seminar covered topics including preventive healthcare, infectious diseases, HIV prevention, and heat injury prevention, strengthening military personnel’s awareness of disease prevention and self-health management. The program also promoted healthy lifestyle habits such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and avoiding tobacco and betel nut use, working together to create a healthier workplace environment and safeguard the health readiness of the armed forces.
