Division of Infectious Diseases

Overview

Currently, our hospital’s Infectious Disease Department is comprised of two infectious disease specialists and two infection control nurses. They are responsible for diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, preventing and controlling hospital-acquired infections, reporting statutory infectious diseases, and promoting the importance of epidemic prevention, as well as the critical role of infectious disease physicians.

Services

Service Items:

General internal medicine encompasses a broad spectrum of diseases, including upper respiratory tract infections, meningitis, pneumonia, cellulitis, acute gastroenteritis, liver abscess, cholecystitis, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, tonsillitis, and fever of unknown origin.

Responsibilities include:

  • Outpatient and Inpatient Services: General clinical infectious diseases (e.g., pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, meningitis, endocarditis, infectious diarrhea, soft tissue infections, fever of unknown origin, and more).
  • Infection Control Services:
    • Antibiotic Management: Our objective is to minimize the inappropriate use of antibiotics through consultations and management, thereby preventing the rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains.
    • Infection Prevention and Control: We analyze infection rates across various units, including bloodstream infections, ventilator-associated infections, and catheter-associated infections. Additionally, we investigate potential causes and propose effective solutions.
  • Epidemic Prevention Efforts: Early diagnosis of reportable infectious diseases, implementation of isolation and prevention measures, and close monitoring of patients in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are essential strategies to mitigate the spread of disease.

Future Outlook:

With the increasing utilization of medical information and communication technologies, we envision our department collaborating with nearby regional hospitals and primary healthcare institutions to establish a comprehensive medical network. This network will enhance treatment and care for major diseases and provide timely assistance for complex cases referred from primary healthcare facilities.
