Division of Cardiology

Overview

The cardiology department is a subspecialty of internal medicine. With advancements in technology and improvements in cardiac catheterization techniques, many heart conditions can now be treated through small incisions, which facilitate rapid recovery.

Since the establishment of the catheterization lab on January 1, 2001, our hospital has conducted approximately 500 catheterization examinations and balloon angioplasty procedures with stent placements each year. We provide 24/7 emergency treatment for patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction, ensuring timely care. In recent years (from 2013 to 2021), statistics indicate that the percentage of acute myocardial infarction patients receiving emergency catheterization surgery and having their blood vessels opened within 90 minutes of arriving at the hospital has consistently exceeded 75%. This achievement has significantly improved patient survival rates and prognoses. Additionally, we have met the standards for emergency medical capability classification as a severe care hospital for acute coronary syndrome, offering services equivalent to those of a medical center.

Services

  1. Hypertensive Heart Disease
  2. Coronary Artery Disease and Angina
  3. Valvular Heart Disease
  4. Heart Failure and Arrhythmias
  5. Catheterization examinations, balloon angioplasty, and stent placements are vital procedures in contemporary cardiovascular medicine.
  6. Placement of Permanent Pacemakers
  7. Arteriovenous Fistula Dilation
  8. Syncope
  9. Carotid Artery Stenosis Examination and Stent Placement
  10. Peripheral Vascular Obstruction: Examination and Revascularization

Future Outlook:

Short-term goals include training physicians in electrophysiology, hiring ultrasound technicians, purchasing percutaneous cardiopulmonary support (PCPS) systems for ECMO use, acquiring high-speed diamond spiral grinding machines for the treatment of patients with complex coronary artery disease, and obtaining external counterpulsation devices (EECP) to benefit patients suffering from heart failure and chronic angina.

Mid-term: Organize a cardiac electrophysiology medical team by training nurses and technicians, and establish a regional cardiology collaboration program involving Tri-Service General Hospital, Chung Hwa Medical University, China Medical University, and Cheng Hsin General Hospital.

We plan to expand the cardiovascular center and construct a new hybrid operating room in the military medical building, which is currently under construction.
