Kidney Dialysis Center
The dialysis unit was established in 1980, initially featuring only two dialysis beds. In September 1997, the unit was temporarily closed due to a shortage of specialized nephrologists, but it reopened on December 7, 1998. To improve the quality of dialysis for patients, the hospital has increased the number of dialysis beds to twenty-six. Each bed is equipped with a personal audio-visual system, creating a high-quality and comfortable dialysis environment. This enhancement not only improves patients’ willingness to undergo treatment but also elevates the overall quality of their dialysis experience.
To enhance service quality and medical standards, we relocated to our current third-floor location in May 2000, creating a high-quality and comfortable dialysis environment for our patients. In April 2002, we established a peritoneal dialysis unit, offering peritoneal dialysis as an alternative and effective treatment option for patients undergoing dialysis.
Dialysis machines strictly enforce hepatitis isolation protocols to prevent cross-infection. The water purification system utilizes dual reverse osmosis (RO) and multiple filtration methods to ensure the delivery of safe and pure dialysis water, thereby enhancing the quality of treatment for hemodialysis patients in the Greater Taichung area.
The nephrology team is led by Director Dr. Kuo Chia-Wen and includes Dr. Liao Yu-Kai, Dr. Chang Li-Chien, and Dr. Yang Deng-He from the Internal Medicine Department. The team is supported by 13 hemodialysis nurses, a nutritionist, a chronic kidney disease (CKD) case manager, and administrative staff. Additionally, other specialists, such as cardiovascular surgeons, are available for consultation, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive, interdisciplinary medical services. Our hospital is recognized as one of the leading institutions promoting health initiatives for chronic kidney disease and serves as a training facility for hemodialysis nursing staff.
Currently, we provide three shifts of dialysis on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and two shifts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Our nursing staff is on standby 24 hours a day to assist with emergencies, intensive care, and hospitalized patients, ready to deliver various emergency dialysis services as needed to ensure timely treatment.
The team consists of four physicians and thirteen nursing staff members, including the head nurse, from the hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis units.
- We are dedicated to promoting patient-centered quality care, ensuring a safe medical and working environment, and creating a warm, refined, and high-quality dialysis center supported by a professional team.
- We aim to establish support groups to enhance the quality of life for kidney patients. Additionally, we plan to create a dialysis patient association to encourage normal activities and promote a confident, healthy lifestyle.
- We also prioritize the development of our care team by continuously enhancing the professional knowledge of our dialysis care team members. In addition to promoting nursing staff, we encourage participation in academic activities to cultivate a high-quality professional dialysis care team.
