2025 Second Half Year Military Preventive Healthcare, Tobacco Hazard, and Betel Nut Control Training Course.

Date:2025-09-12

To improve the health literacy of military personnel, the hospital organized the “2024 Second-Half-Year Armed Forces Preventive Healthcare and Tobacco/Betel Nut Control Seminar” on September 10. The event aimed to promote the health of service members and enhance the overall combat readiness of the Armed Forces.

In his opening remarks, President Dr. Shih Yu-Lung emphasized:

“Smoking and chewing betel nuts not only harm health but also increase the risks of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and other conditions. These habits affect not only the individual but also the safety of families and military units. This seminar also integrates preventive healthcare courses, including infectious disease prevention and winter health protection, to prepare for the upcoming cold season. I encourage everyone to bring what they learn back to their units and actively promote it.”

The seminar featured lectures from specialists in infectious diseases, family medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nutrition, covering the following topics:
◆Infectious disease prevention (COVID-19, influenza, HIV)
◆Winter preventive healthcare
◆ Hazards and impacts of tobacco and betel nut use
◆Cautions and contraindications of smoking cessation medications
◆ Healthy diet and weight management for smoking cessation
◆Cultivating good health habits:
◆Regular exercise
◆Balanced diet
◆Refusal of tobacco and betel nut use
Together, these three essentials contribute to creating a smoke-free military environment, where smoking cessation begins with each individual.
