1.1 Organization Overview
The Tri-Service General Hospital Taichung Branch (hereinafter referred to as “the Hospital”) is a public regional teaching hospital under the jurisdiction of the Military Medical Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense. It fulfills a dual mission: providing medical care within the military healthcare system and delivering health services to the local civilian population. For many years, under an integrated military-civilian medical framework, the Hospital has consistently offered high-quality, accessible, and resilient holistic medical services. Organizationally, the Hospital undertakes three core functions simultaneously: clinical medical care, medical education and training, and public health responsibilities. The hospital originated as the Qingdao City Joint Logistics 104 Rear Hospital, established in 1946. In 1949, it was relocated to Fuzhou City and renamed the Joint Logistics Sixth General Hospital. The following year, in 1950, it moved to Penghu County as the Ministry of National Defense Army, Navy, and Air Force Eighth General Hospital. Later that same year, it relocated to the North District of Taichung City, becoming the Joint Logistics Headquarters Third General Hospital. In 1980, the hospital moved to Taiping City, Taichung County, and was renamed the Army 803 General Hospital. Finally, in 1998, it was reorganized as the Tri-Service General Hospital Taichung Branch, which it remains today.
In 2026, the Hospital published its inaugural “2025 Sustainability Report,” marking the formal transition of sustainable governance from a conceptual framework to an institutionalized and systematic operation. By implementing a more comprehensive information disclosure framework, the Hospital addresses stakeholders’ expectations for transparent governance and measurable performance. The hospital has also established the Zhongqing Branch, Chenggongling Clinic, and operates the Chenggongling Medical Office, which is affiliated with the Ministry of the Interior’s Conscription Agency under commission.
