Starting Jan. 12, strengthened quarantine measures applicable to arrivals from areas under Level 3 travel notice to be implemented for arrivals from South Africa and nine other countries

Date:2022-01-10

On January 10, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that it will remove South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Egypt, and Nigeria, originally put on the CECC’s key high-risk country list mainly because of the Omicron variant, from this list after review and assessment and that the quarantine measures applicable to arrivals from areas under Level 3 travel notice will apply to arrivals from the above ten countries.

The CECC pointed out that travelers can still quarantine at a government quarantine facility for 14 days at their own expense if they booked a flight before the implementation of this policy and have difficulty booking a quarantine hotel. They can also call the toll-free Communicable Disease Reporting and Consultation Hotline at 1922 and provide flight ticket receipts; the 1922 hotline center will assist in arranging for travelers to quarantine at a government quarantine facility at their own expense.
