CECC confirms 22 more COVID-19 cases; 21 Navy members confirmed to have COVID-19

On April 19, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 22 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan, with 21 cases being members of the Navy serving on a three-ship fleet, Dunmu (敦睦) Fleet. A total of 420 cases have been confirmed in Taiwan as of writing. Among the 21 cases, 19 patients are men and 2 patients are women, with their ages ranging between 20 and 49. They displayed symptoms between April 14 and April 18. The source of infection has yet to be identified, and an investigation into related contacts is underway. A total of 744 officers, servicemen and cadets aboard the three naval ships have been tested for COVID-19. Among 744 members of the Navy, 24 tested positive for COVID-19 and are being treated in isolation in the hospital. The remaining Navy members were transported to six quarantine sites and one military base for group quarantine. They are currently healthy, and the CECC will continue to closely monitor their health status at the group quarantine sites.

With respect to one imported case confirmed today, Case #400 traveled to the United States for study on April 21, 2019. The case developed symptoms on April 10, 2020. The case was tested for COVID-19 at the airport when arriving in Taiwan on April 17. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 19.
