CECC confirms 19 more COVID-19 cases, including 16 domestic cases and 3 imported cases

On August 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 19 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 19 new cases, 16 are domestic and the other three are imported. The CECC reported two deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 16 domestic cases (of which, 10 tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), nine are men and the other seven are women, aged between under 5 to 79 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between July 26 and August 2, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, New Taipei City reported the most cases, at 10, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 4. Chiayi County reported 2 cases.

Regarding the two deaths announced today, they were an over 70-year-old female and an over 80-year-old male. Both had chronic diseases.

Regarding the three imported cases, they were all men between 30 and 69 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines and Malaysia and Russia, respectively. They arrived in Taiwan between July 16 and August 1.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,101,038 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,083,962. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,721 cases. Of the 15,721 confirmed cases, 1,274 are imported; 14,393 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases’ sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 108 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 791 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 791 deaths, 783 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
