The section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of Taichung Armed Forces General Hospital has provided a comprehensive health care in Taiping. Our professional services with physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Physical Therapy

The profession serves patients with physical evaluation, treatment and education. According the physical therapy, we can resolve the problems of our body with pain, numbness, soreness, paresthesia, muscle weakness, joint stiffness, motor control dysfunction, and ADL limitation. The subjects we provide:

  1. Orthopedic conditions:
    Fracture, Frozen shoulder, Scoliosis, Osteoarthritis, Sports Injury and others after surgery.
  1. Neurological conditions:
    Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Degenerative Neurological Disease (e.g. Parkinsonism), Peripheral Neuropathy.

Occupational Therapy

The profession provides designed purposeful activities for the patient. The occupational therapist designs personal-made functional activities for every patient according to the occupational evaluations. With these activities, the patients can regain their functional capacity deprived from their disease. The subjects we provide:

  1. Orthopedic conditions:
    Dysfunction after surgery.
  1. Neurological conditions:
    Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Degenerative Neurological Disease (e.g. Parkinsonism), Peripheral Neuropathy.
  1. Orthosis Splint.

Speech Therapy

The profession is the use of various tests and instruments to evaluate, diagnose and treat language communication and swallowing problems. Its service targets are those who have difficulty in swallowing and speech/language communication in the course of children’s language development or adults due to functional or organic impairment.

Future outlook

  1. The addition of “Early treatment and education” services, on the one hand to reduce the degree of obstacles and illness, on the other hand, to develop the child’s potential so that the child can strengthen the ability to lead a normal life like children of the same age.
  2. Purchase a “Robotic Arm“, which uses electronic sensors to read messages from the arm muscles to control the opening and closing of the manipulator’s palm, and to convey positive physiological feedback to the case. By achieving early neuroplasticity, it can make acute and chronic cases can overcome the bottleneck of movement training.
  3. Introduce “Virtual Reality Somatosensory rehabilitation“, use parameter adjustment to generate a 3D virtual environment, and then induce patients to make specific actions and motor responses, and learn how to apply motor skills to the real world through feedback, incentives, etc.
