Global coronavirus situation continues to escalate; CECC urges public to practice hand hygiene, cough etiquette, mask-wearing and other protective measures

On October 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan (Case #551). As of writing, a cumulative total of 101,021 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 99,758. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 550 cases. Of the 550 confirmed cases, 458 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 508 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 35 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.

The CECC reported that there was a huge rise in global coronavirus cases over the last three weeks. The average number of daily new cases was 455,385 in the past week, with the majority of cases reported in the United States, India, France, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. The CECC’s travel notice for all countries remains at Level 3: Warning.
